However, around 350 other people, aged 14 years or older strap on their Polo uniforms and get ready to watch some seriously entertaining tennis. How do I know this? I was one of them. This job is definitely no joke though. Getting more than 1,100 applicants, the US Open requires people who display athletic capabilities and understand the rules of tennis. Despite having the greatest seats in the house for all the matches, ball crew members are made to go through a three-hour training session to get them ready for what’s to come. This includes running a beep test (where participants run back and forth between two points as their pace gradually increases), practicing rolling balls, and servicing players. US Open 2023: Crunch Time Written by Max Turtz of Swish Tribune In less than 24 hours, the US Open men’s semifinals will be on their way. Carlos Alcaraz has steamrolled his way to the semifinals and will now face 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev for a chance to defend last year’s title. Alcaraz has looked as sharp as ever and has had success against Medvedev in the past. However, this will be his greatest challenge yet. Medvedev has also reached the semis with ease. In the quarters, he managed a 3-set victory over friend Andrey Rublev despite oppressive heat. Medvedev will be looking to forget his past matches with Alcaraz and bring, in his own words, “11 out of 10”. American Ben Shelton is shocking the world and has earned himself a spot against Novak Djokovic, who some hail as the G.O.A.T. Both players, despite their age gap, are extremely hungry for a chance to win it all.   The Immaculate Return of Caroline Wozniacki Written by Max Turtz of Swish Tribune Danish grand-slam champion Caroline Wozniacki returned to tennis just a month ago and is making her mark at the US Open. Being her first major since the 2020 Australian Open and retirement three years ago, nothing crazy was expected from Wozniacki. However, the Dane is into the third round in New York and is set to face American Jen Brady, who recently returned from injury. In round two, Wozniacki defeated two-time major champion Petra Kvitová in stunning fashion. Wozniacki herself has spent a total of 71 weeks at the No. 1 spot of the WTA rankings. In her career, she has captured 30 titles including the 2018 Australian Open. She is also a two-time finalist at the US Open, losing to Kim Clijsters in 2009 and Serena Williams in 2014. Now, after having two kids with former NBA player David Lee, Wozniacki is looking to continue her strong return with a second week at the US Open.

This tennis season has brought us so many exciting matches and tournaments.    Countdown to the US Open Written by Max Turtz of Swish Tribune With Wimbledon’s conclusion nearly a month ago, tennis players are preparing for America’s grand slam tournament, the US Open. Before the final grand slam of the year begins, players are warming up their hardcourt skills. The National Bank Open in Toronto is currently underway. It is the first of two Masters 1000 tournaments leading up to the US Open. The other is the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio, which begins on August 13th, right after the National Bank Open ends.  Top players are on collision courses in Toronto, with Matteo Berrettini set to face Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz possibly meeting Holger Rune. Stefanos Tsitsipas, who just took on a new coach to replace his lifelong coach (his father), will face veteran Gael Monfils.   Written By: Max Turtz of Swish Tribune This past week has included two ATP 500 and one ATP 250 tournaments. The first ATP 500 tournament to concluded was in Dubai, UAE. Daniil Medvedev continued his two-tournament win-streak and captured his 18th career title. Not only does Medvedev have a 14-match active win streak, but he also ended Novak Djokovic's 20-match win streak in the Dubai semifinal.  In the Western Hemisphere, Nicolás Jarry captured his home country's ATP 250 in Chile. Making this only his second career single's title. He defeated fellow South Americans, Diego Schwartzman in the round of 16, and Tomás Etcheverry in the final.  The other ATP 500 was in Acapulco, Mexico. It featured top players including Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Matteo Berrettini, Alex de Minaur Denis Shapovalov. Even top ranked Americans Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Tommy Paul participated.
