Philadelphia 76ers Preview

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune A team that just seems like they can never get it done, the Philadelphia 76ers walk in to the 2023-24 NBA season with a very similar team that they marched out last year. But last year like previous years, they came up short and this time at the hands of the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.  One major shakeup within the 76ers organization was the firing of Doc Rivers and the hiring of Nick Nurse. Rivers was not the coach for the job and year after year was never able to get it done, so the Sixers decided to hire an in-division coach in Nick Nurse for the job. Nurse won the finals back in 2019 with the Raptors, but just walked into a team that has a lot of drama going on.  Although the rumors and discussions going on around the league about possible huge shakeups with this Sixers team, nothing has really changed besides the coaching situation. James Harden has wanted out as a Sixer and expressed that in a video that got lea

Zach Wilson's Time Is Up AGAIN

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune A change is needed at quarterback for the Jets once again. A year ago it was the same situation with the same exact quarterback, but they could not solve the problem. This year they have a better opportunity to address this dilemma and figure it out.  Zach Wilson was the number two pick by the Jets just a couple of years ago and has not nearly lived up to what the Jets were hoping he could be. Sure, he's had a couple of games where he's looked like an average quarterback, but the rest of them have suggested that he doesn't have the skill to be an NFL quarterback.  For some reason though, the coaching staff wants to stick with him at the helm. Writing from the perspective of a frustrated Jets fan, it seems like after every game the coaching staff is making a new excuse up for Wilson and remaining loyal to him miserable performance after miserable performance.  If they continue to stick with him and he doesn't do anything to h

Brooklyn Nets Preview

Brooklyn Nets Preview Written by Max Turtz of Swish Tribune As the NBA season is approaching quickly, Brooklyn Nets fans are eager for Mikal Bridges’s first full year as a Net. A versatile forward known for his defensive prowess and three-point shooting. Bridges has brought a new dimension to the Nets' roster. His ability to guard multiple positions and space the floor has certainly impressed. So far, he has done a solid job of filling Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving’s shoes. Hopefully that continues this year. Another intriguing player for the Nets is Spencer Dinwiddie, who rejoined the team after brief stints with the Wizards and Mavericks. Dinwiddie, known for his playmaking abilities and clutch performances, has added valuable depth to Brooklyn's backcourt. His ability to run the offense and provide scoring off the bench gives the Nets more flexibility in their lineups.  In the competitive landscape of the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets, with Mikal Bridges' arrival and Spencer Di

The Eric Bieniemy Effect

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune The new and improved Washington Commanders have come out steaming to start the season. They go into Week 3 as one of the few undefeated teams left at 2-0 after playing some impressive games to open up their season.  The Commanders went under a lot of drastic changes this offseason with the hiring of new ownership in particular, and the hiring of new offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy. Bieniemy had been the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs since 2018 and has been coaching in the NFL since 2006. In Kansas City, Bieniemy helped revitalize their offense and he is trying to do the exact same now in our nation's capital. In Kansas City, Bieniemy transformed Patrick Mahomes into the best quarterback in football and was also a main contributor to bringing back two Super Bowl championships to Arrowhead. Now Bieniemy is bringing that same system over but this time with a different quarterback in Sam Howell.  Howell, a second-year quarterbac

NFL Players Continue To Shatter Like Glass

Image
Written By: Dylan Grodner, of Swish Tribune Notable superstar NFL Players such as Aaron Rodgers and Nick Chubb, in addition to many others are already out for the season after just 2 weeks.  At the end of week 2, players such as Aaron Rodgers, Nick Chubb, Cooper Kupp, Austin Ekeler, Travis Kelce, Saquon Barkley, and many others have already missed at least one game, with some expected to miss the rest of the season. Injuries are part of football, however they seem to be occurring more often than ever. The most common injuries thus far are mainly leg related, including ACL tears, torn achilles, ankle sprains, and other injuries damaging cartilage in knees. Players and former stars have spoken out as a result of injuries, arguing that the concrete texture of turf is dangerous and harmful to players. Instead, players would prefer to play on the sweet smell of freshly cut blades of grass.  As of September 13th, Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL has stated “moving all stadium field

Kareem Jackson: This is Not WWE!

Image
Written By: Jack Nevins of Swish Tribune     As a safety in the NFL, it is your job to watch over the middle of the field and make sure no player gets past the secondary, while at the same time, making a big hit on a receiver that runs a crossing route. And Kareem Jackson of the Denver Broncos, did just that.      In today's game featuring the Denver Broncos and the Washington Commanders, in Denver, with 1:52 left on the clock in the first half, rookie quarterback found veteran tight end, Logan Thomas, in the endzone. Now, Thomas, is not a small man, he stands 6'6 and weighs 250 pounds. This takes a lot of force to take this grown man down, but Jackson was able to do so. Jackson lowered his shoulder after Thomas ran an inside 6-yard post into the endzone. After the catch, Jackson went full John Cena mode and sent Thomas to the floor, KO. Thomas was then ruled out with a concussion for the remainder of the game. On the other hand, Jackson would be charged with a targe

Biggest Surprise of Week 1

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune In my eyes, the most surprising team up and down during this first full week of NFL action had to be the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams went into Seattle, one of the toughest road environments in the league, and absolutely took it to the Seahawks in dominant fashion, 30-13.  The Rams did this all without arguably the best player on their team, definitely their biggest offensive weapon, Cooper Kupp. Kupp was placed on the IR before the season and will miss a minimum four games for the Rams to open up the season. But on Sunday the Rams proved that their offense is not all centered around Cooper Kupp.  After the Rams closed out last season missing Matthew Stafford for their last seven games, we saw a healthy Matthew Stafford takeover the reins on Sunday. Stafford looked good as new as he threw for 334 yards on the day. He did this with the help of two very unknown receivers outside the Rams organization. These receivers were Tutu Atwell and rookie

Yankees: Grateful for Gerrit Cole

Image
Yankees: Grateful for Gerrit Cole Written by Max Turtz of Swish Tribune As the MLB regular season winds down, Yankee fans are disappointed. Coming off of an ALCS in 2022, fans expected the same or better. However, the Yankees have continued to struggle and this year, they finally began to fall apart. Manager Brian Cashman decided to essentially maintain the roster, hoping something would magically differ from the past few seasons. He refused to make any bold moves at the trade deadline and injuries only restricted the team further. Now, sitting at a game over 0.500, shock has set in. The Yanks sit at the bottom of the AL east, with playoff hopes reaching zero. Yet somehow, we have the AL Cy Young favorite, Gerrit Cole. Right now, he is the only thing keeping many fans remotely interested. I can’t imagine what is going through his head right now. One thing for sure is that he is contemplating his 2024 opt-out after next season. Hopefully, big changes happen sooner rather than later, b

Are the Giants Really That Bad?

Image
Last Sunday, the New York Giants were the only team in the NFL to not score a point in Week 1. Not only that, but they lost in a devastating 40-0 shutout to the Dallas Cowboys. How does this happen to a team that won a road playoff game last year and only improved? I'm going to break down the game and find out what the chances are for G-Men in the coming weeks.  On their first drive of the game, the Giants looked impressive. They were moving the ball with ease. Saquan Barkley looked good, as he usually does. The mixed running attack of Barkley and Daniel Jones got them all the way to Dallas's 8-yard line. At this point, it was looking like we were in for a great game. That's when Andrew Thomas had a false start, something he didn't do all of last year. Then the rookie Center, John Michael Schmitz, gave a bad snap which resulted in a 10-yard loss. After that, the Giants were forced to kick a field goal, which was blocked and taken back for a TD. Right away, the Giants g

Fantasy Football Risers and Fallers After Week 1

Image
Written By: Jake Bornstein, of Swish Tribune      The NFL has kicked off and wow was it crazy! This article will consist of the top risers and top fallers from the games. Fantasy Points is in HPPR. Risers Calvin Ridley: Ridley is now officially a weekly top ten receiver. There was speculation before the season that this could happen… and it did. Christian Kirk, the number two WR, was practically not at the game. Zay Jones had a decent game with five catches, but nothing concerning. Meanwhile, Ridley balled out! He had a monster first half and then overall finished the win with 101 yards, 8 catches and a TD. His dominate performance will stay and only improve as him and T-Law get more and more on the same page.  Fantasy Points: 22.1 Brandon Aiyuk: Deebo fell off last season and it appears it will stay that way with his poor performance, but what really shows it is Aiyuks incredible performance. The “wide receiver two” dropped two touchdowns, 129 yards and 8 catches. While, he fell sho

What-Should-Be Top 25

Image
What-Should-Be Top 25 Source: ESPN Sage Rubin, Swish Tribune 1. Georgia Georgia is the reigning back-to-back national champions which earns them the number 1 spot in the country. Despite their slow starts against Ball State and the University of Tennessee-Martin, they will keep this spot until they either lose or continue the slow starts throughout the season similar to 2014 FSU. 2. Florida State Had Georgia not been the back-to-back champions, Florida State would be my top-ranked team in the country. Having arguably the best win in the country so far by blowing out LSU 45-24 and a stacked offense with Jordan Travis, Keon Coleman, Trey Benson, Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, and Johnny Wilson, it is clear that this team is ready to play anyone. While they also had a dominating win over Southern Miss, this is a team that is still yet to play their best football yet. 3. Texas Like Florida State, Steve Sarkisian has built a strong team via the transfer portal. Quarterback Quinn Ewers led the T

US Open 2023 as a Ball Crew Member

Image
Written by: Avary Bourbin, Swish Tribune As many people are getting ready for the summer to come to a close, some may take this time to experience some last minute summer activities and relax. However, around 350 other people, aged 14 years or older strap on their Polo uniforms and get ready to watch some seriously entertaining tennis. How do I know this? I was one of them. This job is definitely no joke though. Getting more than 1,100 applicants, the US Open requires people who display athletic capabilities and understand the rules of tennis. Despite having the greatest seats in the house for all the matches, ball crew members are made to go through a three-hour training session to get them ready for what’s to come. This includes running a beep test (where participants run back and forth between two points as their pace gradually increases), practicing rolling balls, and servicing players. It definitely requires at-home practice in order to perfect the specific techniques they are tau

And New! Sean Strickland Beats Israel Adesanya - An Analysis

Image
By Stuart Graeber, Swish Tribune This past weekend sent shockwaves through the UFC and the MMA community as a whole. In UFC 293, Sean Strickland defeated Israel Adesanya by way of unanimous decision. This was a complete shock, with Adesanya favorite to win this fight by a significant margin. This was the biggest upset in UFC history, with Sean Strickland being a +650 underdog. Lets talk about how it happened. Israel Adesanya is internationally renowned for his superior striking and defensive capabilities. Adesanya has made his money on being a counter-striker with precise kicks and punches. Because of this, the most common strategy used against Adesanya is extremely passive fighting, waiting for him to make a mistake. The problem with this is that it allows Adesanya to become comfortable in the pocket and when that happens, there isn't a man alive who can strike with him. Sean Strickland took a different approach. Sean Strickland's strategy against Adesanya was to do the comp

Deion And The Buffs Are Here

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune The Colorado Buffaloes, also known as the Buffs, are already 2-0 and have improved mightily from their 1 win season just a year ago. That is all thanks to their new head coach, former NFL star, Deion Sanders and the different approach and mentality he has brought to Boulder. The Buffs first two games resulted in an upset win over the #17 ranked TCU on the road, and then a rivalry win at home against Nebraska. Both games drew a lot of attention to the program and how they would put up with the heavy competition as a brand new team.  The Buffs went from being unranked just two weeks ago to now at #18 in the country. A lot can change in one year especially when you have the transfer portal. The Buffs went 1-11 last year, fired their head coach, hired Deion and he already has delivered more in 2 weeks than the Buffs did in 12 weeks a season ago.  We are in a whole different generation of college football nowadays with the transfer portal and NI

Comeback Year for Deshaun?

Image
Is Deshaun Watson going to be the best Quarterback in fantasy this year? By Evan Ostander, of Swish Tribune We all know Deshaun Watson is a terrible person, but sadly, that isn’t going to stop him from playing, and dominating, in the NFL this year. Before everything happened with Deshaun Watson, he was a consensus top 5 Quarterback in the league, and there was a genuine argument for him over Patrick Mahomes.  Right now, it seems impossible for anyone to be close to Mahomes’ level, but if anyone can do it, it will be Deshaun Watson. Since Watson has been in Cleveland, he has played half of a season after a year and a half hiatus, and he looked horrible in that season.  I think that this year will be different. The Browns are looking to be a scary offense this year with Njoku, Cooper, DPJ, and a deadly running attack led by Nick Chubb, and if Watson can get back to form, he should be able to thrive on this offense.

Are the Chiefs in Trouble?

Image
Written by Max Freud of Swish Tribune  While the scoreboard didn’t look too bad, the Chiefs should’ve gotten blown out by the Lions on Thursday night. The Chief's best player was Nick Bolton and Mahomes was once again outshined by Jared just like when Goff beat him in that shootout game on Monday Night Football a couple years back. Mahomes may have been at a disadvantage because of his receiver play and Travis Kielce being out, Jared Goff was still able to make it work with Sam LaPorta at tight end and the occasional pass to Amon Ra St. Brown. Josh Reynolds also played a huge part as he converted some key third downs.  The Chiefs showed an inability to stop the Lions running game and the Lions also always seemed to get the big conversion on the passing plays. Chris Jones being out for the Chiefs proved to be a big problem and the Chiefs are going to need him back soon to win the tough games especially against the up and coming Jaguars next week. Hopefully Travis Kelce will be bac

Down Goes USA

Image
Written By: Jack Nevins of Swish Tribune     After coming into the FIBA World Cup as the top seed and the clear dominant force, the USA Men's Basketball team came crashing down to the boys from up North.      In the Bronze Medal game, team USA lost 127-118 to Canada. The Americans finished fourth in the FIBA World Cup for the first time since 2019. Canada was in control all game with NBA vet, Dillon Brooks putting up 39 points to lead all scorers, while SGA added 31 points and 12 assists. Knicks Guard, RJ Barrett also scored 23. This was the first time since 1936 that Canada won a medal of any sort at the FIBA World Cup.  For the second consecutive World Cup, the US failed to win a medal. Out of 38 appearances this is only the seventh time that the US did not win a gold, silver, or bronze medal at the World Cup or Olympics.       The Americans were favorites coming into the tournament, and after losing three of their last four games to Lithuania, Germany, and Canada, the
