The Pistons Cannot Stop Losing

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune There is no other way to put it, the Detroit Pistons are horrible. They are setting records that are not meant to be set, records that no one would like to be remembered for. Currently the Pistons are 2-28 after just having set the all-time losing streak record of losing 27 games in a row.  The last time the Pistons made the playoffs was 2019, but you have to go back even further to 2008 for the last time they won a singular playoff game. This franchise has been the doormat of the NBA for quite a while now and it doesn't seem like this will change anytime soon. This past offseason the Pistons hired Monty Williams as their new head coach, marking the largest coaching contract ever in NBA history. The Pistons are a very young team with their core consisting of many players that have been in the league for a couple of seasons at most.  You can't blame it on the way this team has been built because look across the league at the Thunder

Why Washington will win the National Championship

Image
Written by Oliver William, of Swish Tribune Est Read: 5 Mins When you have arguably the best 1-2 punch in College Football, you are going to be the team to beat. However, with the worst odds at 7 to 1, Washington is a surprising underdog to win it all, with Michigan, Texas, and Alabama having  3 to 1 odds. However I believe Washington will prove why they are  the best team in the country, Firstly, Jade McMillan is Back   The star receiver is finally back after sitting out most of the season with a  knee injury. In 2022, he put up over 1,000 yards with 9 Touchdowns. I n the previous five games in which he suited up, the junior had accumulated five receptions for 26 yards. In the Pac-12 title game, the 6-foot 188-pound wideout had nine receptions for 131 yards. This relieves a lot of pressure from the best receiver on the field and future NFL first-round pick Rome Odunze, who has another 1,000-yard season. Jade McMillan is an exceptional route runner and has the trust of Micheal Penix to

FSU vs UGA Preview -- Orange Bowl

FSU Vs. UGA Preview -- Orange Bowl In what will be a very awkward matchup, Florida State and Georgia are set to play each other on Saturday in the Orange Bowl and while one might say that this must be the best matchup of the year, the reality is that this will be far from it. Both teams are going to have a combined 40 players missing this bowl game due to NFL Draft prep, surgeries, injuries, and transfer portal activity. However, the game must still be played. In this matchup, Brock Glenn will have his second career start for the Seminoles. Glenn’s first start was in a high-stakes ACC Championship against Louisville where the Florida State defense dominated in a championship-caliber performance. However, Glenn provided minimal numbers in his debut and was not generating much momentum. The true freshman was placed in a tough situation as he had already missed a large chunk of the season trying to recover from a hand injury earlier in the year while also learning the playbook on the fly.

The Best Team in Football: The Niners

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune The 49ers are taking the league by storm with their dominant performances after dominant performances since their bye week. Since their bye week they have won six straight games and have outscored their opponents by a combined 113 points.  For the first five weeks of the season, the Niners looked like the best team in the league as well until they hit a road bump from Weeks 6-8. But I am confidently here to tell you that this team is back and will be a problem to slow down as we approach the NFL playoffs. Like I said earlier in the season, this team is the most complete team in the National Football League and that is why they are so good. I could go position by position and name for you why they are so good, but i'll just keep it plain and simple and address the fact that they have 2 deserving MVP candidates. Not one but two candidates in Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey. The MVP award is usually a quarterback award so I would say Pur

The Perfect Christmas Gift For Every NBA Team

Written By: Dylan Grodner, of Swish Tribune This year will go down as one of the crazies trade deadlines in recent history. With 88% of the players being available to trade this year, we're looking at one of the busiest deadlines in history. Enough with the chit-chat however, let's take a look at 1 potential trade each team needs to make to improve their team this season.  1. The OKC Thunder Trade For Lauri Markkanen The Thunder are looking like one of the best teams in the league this season with a very real chance at being a contender in the Western Conference. They are still a very young team with a slew of picks. They have one of the best constructed rosters in the league from top to bottom. With a top ten player in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the leading candidate for rookie of the year in Chet Holmgren, and arguably the rookie of the year for last season in Jalen Williams, this team looks extremely scary - for years to come. The Thunder could potentially package Josh Gidde

My MVP Pick: Dak Prescott

Image
Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune As we approach the final weeks of the regular season, the MVP discussion has been heating up, but there is only one correct option for the award so far. That option is Dak Prescott. Prescott has had his best season this year as a pro and as of last week has propelled the Cowboys into 1st place in the NFC East.  The Cowboys in general have had an unbelievable season, but that is all in thanks to their star quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott currently leads the league in touchdowns with 28 of them, possesses the second best QBR in the league, and has the fourth most passing yards as well.  The numbers don't lie and along with that, the Cowboys have a 10-3 record, sitting atop the NFC. The Cowboys are winning lots of games, and they are winning these games handedly. In 8 of their 10 wins this season, the Cowboys have beaten their opponent by at least 20 points courtesy of Dak's phenomenal play.  Dak went into this offseason with one goal

ESPN & The playoff controversy

Image
ESPN'S PLAYOFF CONTROVERSY Sage Rubin, Swish Tribune Amidst all the controversy regarding Florida State’s snub from being in the playoffs, not many people are talking about potentially ESPN’s role in this. It is important to understand that the SEC, the product that ESPN keeps bragging about, is about to be in a 3 billion investment for the network. So without any real understanding of college football, it’s clear that ESPN wanted to back their product. However, the problem I take with their actions is what they had the anchors do. ESPN didn’t like the potential outcome of FSU being in the playoff so they, in my opinion, essentially held the playoff hostage into doing what they want. Let me explain, there were several factors that I think played a role here. The first one being yes, ESPN is paying a ton of money to the SEC. It would be in their best interest to force the product that really wasn’t that good this year to be in the playoff because of some mythical conference strength

The College Football Playoff Breakdown

Image
Written By: Jack Nevins of Swish Tribune     The conference championships within college football this weekend have brought great excitement to the remainder of the season and was a very entertaining way to close out the season for some teams. The College Football Playoff is now set, following each conference  championship, and many teams that were thought to be included in the final four are absent. Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama remain and will play in the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl on New Year's.     As we know, Florida State is nowhere to be seen in the CFP, along with national championship favorite, Georgia, and the Buckeyes from Ohio State. Beside the teams that did not go the distance, let's take a look at the games that matter for the national championship.          Number 1, Michigan, and number 4 Alabama will kick off the CFP semifinal at the Rose Bowl, known to be the most historic venue in all of college sports. The Michigan Wolverines we

No CFP for FSU

Image
In the final year of the four team college football playoff, the committee will have a very tough time determining the final four teams to advance. One of those teams in the mix is the Florida State Seminoles and I'm here to tell you why they should NOT qualify.  Written By: Spencer Teman, of Swish Tribune Florida State has had a great season headlined by a lot of big name players such as Jordan Travis, Keon Coleman, and Jared Verse. But recently, their star quarterback, Jordan Travis, suffered a season-ending injury and the Seminoles will now have to rely on the rest of their quarterback room to do the job.  As we all know, from high school to college to the NFL, teams do not operate as well without their starting quarterback and FSU is a prime example. They escaped Gainesville last weekend with a narrow victory over the Gators and if it wasn't for some brutal penalties on the Gators, we would be having a much different conversation right now.  In years past, we've seen t

The Islanders are one of a kind in Today's NHL

Image
Written by Max Freud of Swish Tribune The Islanders are a weird case in the NHL. They are above NHL .500, yet are viewed as a boring and unsuccessful team. They have blown the most 3rd period leads in the NHL this season and also have the most losses after regulation thus far.  This is particularly interesting considering that they have some of the best goaltending in the league. One would think that with excellent goaltending, the team would be better at holding leads, but this isn’t the case. Often the Islanders can find themselves chasing the puck. This makes the islanders players tired as the 3rd period comes around which makes it easier for a team to come back on them. This was evident in last night’s game against the hurricanes.  The islanders were severely outplayed and outshot by the hurricanes, yet entered the third period up 3-2. They had been chasing the puck all game and Carolina had controlled the pace of the game thus far. The Hurricanes probably deserved to be up at le
