1. Georgia
Georgia is the reigning back-to-back national champions which earns them the number 1 spot in the country. Despite their slow starts against Ball State and the University of Tennessee-Martin, they will keep this spot until they either lose or continue the slow starts throughout the season similar to 2014 FSU.
2. Florida State
Had Georgia not been the back-to-back champions, Florida State would be my top-ranked team in the country. Having arguably the best win in the country so far by blowing out LSU 45-24 and a stacked offense with Jordan Travis, Keon Coleman, Trey Benson, Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, and Johnny Wilson, it is clear that this team is ready to play anyone. While they also had a dominating win over Southern Miss, this is a team that is still yet to play their best football yet.
3. Texas
Like Florida State, Steve Sarkisian has built a strong team via the transfer portal. Quarterback Quinn Ewers led the Texas Longhorns to a dominating win over the then #3 Alabama Crimson Tide which gives Texas the second biggest win of the season so far. Obviously, questions about this team still remain as they head into conference play, but it does seem like the Big 12 has an early favorite to win the title.
4. Michigan
While they have made back-to-back playoff appearances and Big Ten Titles, I have Michigan ranked this low because they haven't had a win over a strong power 5 opponent yet. Coach Harbaugh is also in the midst of a 4 game suspension giving the team a slight game-day disadvantage in the coaching department despite him being able to facilitate practices.
5. USC
Lincoln Riley is a QB whisperer and his ability to coach up what feels like any QB is extremely impressive. However, despite having Caleb Williams who is arguably the best Quarterback in the country, this USC squad still has yet to have a strong defense as Alex Grinch's defense is consistently disappointing a lot of the fans. That being said while yes there is a remarkable offense being played with Caleb Williams, Zachariah Branch, and more. it is clear that until the defense is improved, this team is not playoff-ready yet.
