FSU Week 1 Preview

The 2023 season is one that many Florida State fans are excited about. After a strong showing in 2022, many fans are left to be filled with hope for the next season as they have gone out and acquired top-tier talent in the transfer portal. On January 30th, The ACC released the schedule of all 14 teams. Florida State’s schedule is going to be very difficult, to say the least. I will release a preview of each game very shortly after another as the season rapidly approaches

Week 3: at Boston College
Week 4: at Clemson

Week 10: at Pitt
Week 11: vs Miami (FL) RIVALRY GAME***
Week 12: vs North Alabama
Week 13: at Florida RIVALRY GAME***

Week 1 - LSU


Starting in Week 1, the Seminoles will travel to Orlando, Florida where they will face the LSU Tigers in what is expected to be a top-10 matchup. LSU has been as active in the Transfer Portal as FSU. According to 247sports, LSU holds the No. 1 ranked Transfer Class while FSU holds the No. 2 ranked Transfer Class. These teams had a strong showing in the 2022-23 season as they both finished 10-3 with wins in their bowl games.

LSU returns star QB Jayden Daniels, star RB Armoni Goodwin, WR Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas, Star Transfer WR Aaron Anderson, Star TE Mason Taylor, DE Maason Smith, DT Mekhi Wingo, Star LB Harold Perkins, and more.

FSU is returning a large amount of their roster as their off-season has been headlined by their roster retention rate. QB Jordan Travis, RB Trey Benson, WR Johnny Wilson, DE Jared Verse, DL Fabien Lovett, S Akeem Dent, DB Renardo Green, and LB Tatum Bethune to name a few.

History has said that FSU Head Coach Mike Norvell has had the edge on LSU coach Brian Kelly as even though Norvell has lost to Kelly, almost all of these games have involved FSU competing with far more talented Kelly-coached teams most of the time.

With all that being said, the game being in Orlando could play a huge factor in the game as FSU will likely have the home-field advantage against the Tigers. I also believe that the veteran experience that FSU brings to the game will allow them to have the edge over LSU. Below is my score prediction.

FSU - 37 LSU - 35

  The Colorado Buffaloes kicked off their 2024 season with a close victory over FCS powerhouse North Dakota State. The duo of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter looked better than ever in their season debut.  Colorado has been the headline of college football the past couple seasons with Deion Sanders taking over the program. Sanders has almost single handedly changed the dynamic of college football with NIL and the abundance of transfers entering the portal season after season.  Sanders and Hunter are two of the highest paid college football players through NIL deals. Sanders is making almost $5 million annually while still in college. Previously, athletes could not benefit from their name, image, and likeness, but now athletes, such as Sanders, are taking full advantage of it.  They don't just hand out millions to random athletes however. Reddick's Holdout Continues

It has been 30 days since Haason Reddick was supposed to show up to Jets training camp, yet he has still not shown face in Florham Park. It has developed into a very interesting and is the biggest holdout ongoing in the NFL.  Everyday that Reddick does not show up to camp, he is fined $50,000. With this being day 30 of his absence, he has forfeited $1.5 million in fines so far. He has made it clear that he will go to extreme lengths to get his way.  Reddick will enter the final year of his three-year contract in the 2024 season. Approaching 30 years old next month, Reddick wants and will only play under a new contract, that way he will be insured for the future despite his increasing age.  The Jets traded a conditional third-round pick for Reddick this offseason.
