Viktor Hovland: PGA Tour Breakout solidified by Fedex Cup win
While this is all impressive, his recent Fedex Cup win solidified his name among the best while simultaneously racking in $18 million from that single tournament purse. This win was outstanding. He beat second place by more than 10 strokes with Hovland coming in at -46 and second place Xander Schauffele with -35.
This win, not to mention this whole season, has been extremely surprising to many. Before the season Hovlands chipping was objectively far below the tour pro level. This season made it clear that the chipping was the only thing holding him back though. He worked with his coach, Joe Mayo, to bring his chipping to elite level expected of him, and he never looked back. This took Hovland from the average tour player, to a top players, and arguable one of the best based off of his impressive earnings this year and tournament placings.
Off the links, Hovland has become a fan favorite thanks to his laid back approach to golf, appealing lack of professionalism, elite talent, and quick rise to fame.
Hovland is still very young and his extraordinary career is beginning to blossom. He is making himself more of a household name and will likely be a top 5 tour player next season and I would say he will carry that elite status for many more years to come. He will continue being a fan favorite and we can only hope he maintains this status and brings us many more great years of PGA Tour entertainment.
