NBA Off-Season Updates
Written By: Lucas Regal, of Swish Tribune
It's August which means it's a boring time for basketball fans. It feels like every day we're waking up hoping to hear news of a blockbuster trade or a monster signing. Here's the latest on the biggest stories of the off-season
Damian Lillard
The big question here is: Will Damian Lillard get traded? He's been open about the fact that he feels his time is done in Portland and wants to play with Jimmy Butler down in South Beach. There has been an assortment of potential trades flying around that could get Dame to the Heat, mostly including Tyler Herro and numerous first-round picks. NBA insiders have said that the deal isn't close to being done. Would the addition of Damian Lillard put Miami over the edge to finally win their first championship since Lebron? The only way to find out is if the Trailblazers are willing to send away their sole superstar of the last decade.
James Harden
The future is never certain regarding James Harden. He's struggled with commitment these last few years, going from the Rockets to the Nets to the 76ers, and now he's requested another trade. The most likely trade would be with the Clippers involving Paul George. The thought of James Harden getting traded brings up questions about the process as a whole. Is it time for the Sixers to move on from Embiid as well and start over? My personal opinion is that both Harden and Embiid will stay for at least one more season and try to finally make a deep run in the playoffs.
Jaylen Brown
Brown recently signed the biggest contract in NBA history with his extension, making $304 Million over the next 5 years. Is this too much money for a guy who's only a 2-time All-Star and not even the best player on his own team? Yes. But was it still the right move for the Celtics? Yes. Here's why: The Celtics are in win-now mode. The roster they've put together has championship potential, especially with the addition of Kristaps Porzingis this off-season. With Brown and Tatum both entering their prime, this is their time to win it all. Brown is one of the league's best two-way players and those aren't easy to come by. Will the Celtics regret this decision in 5 years? Maybe, but right now they need Jaylen Brown happy and committed to his team for the long-term in order for the possibility of a championship.
