Preseason Preview: Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks finished last season at 9-8. With that record they snuck into the playoffs and faced the 49ers in the wild card round. They would lose that game and be eliminated from playoff contention. Their season was still viewed as a success though as Geno Smith played into an extension and the defense was good enough.

The Seahawks will look to repeat last season and will aim to once again make the playoffs. Their offense will once again be strong as receivers Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are back. First round draft pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba will round out the receiving core. Running Back Kenneth Walker will look to produce another strong season for Pete Carrol with the rookie out of UCLA, Zach Charbonnet, spelling him when needed. The offensive line will continue to be mediocre but hopefully the improving play of Geno Smith and talented skill position players will be able to hold up.

On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks will be pretty good as well. Their defense will be manned by Bobby Wagner who may be declining but he is still a strong anchor at linebacker. At the back end they’ll have Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs who will be flying around making tackles and intercepting errant passes. The line could use some work thought they will have Jarran Reed and Mario Edwards Jr. defending the run and getting to the QB.

Overall, Seattle looks poised to compete for a final wild card spot as the team hopefully continues to improve. Their ceiling might be winning the division though something would have to go wrong for San Fransisco. If things go wrong and injuries start to plague this team then they could probably come in third. The rams could be boom or bust this year and the Cardinals look like one of the worst teams in all the NFL. Could the Seahawks win a couple playoff games and make a run? Yes, but they could also bottom out and show that last year was more of a fluke and end up in a weak division near the bottom of the league.
